Maivish navigates a deep current of musical heritage that spans the British Isles and North America; with members originating from the UK, New England and the Appalachian mountains, their root system exists in the migration of traditional folk music, from the Old Country to the New World. Coupling time honored songs and tunes with tradition-inspired original compositions, their performances are infused with distinct vocal harmonies, inspired interplay, and captivating spirit.
The group is a collaboration between American fiddler Jaige Trudel and British born singer and guitarist Adam Broome who have been performing together since 2001 for dances, festivals and concerts throughout North America and abroad. They are joined by Matthew Olwell, who has performed and taught as a dancer and percussionist at festivals and theaters across North America and Europe since 1996.
The name Maivish comes from an English colloquial term for the Song Thrush.
