Blackbird and the Storm is an award-winning, birdsong-inspired project. The project began in London under the mentorship of producer Flood (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, U2, Nine Inch Nails, Sigur Ros), and is now based in the American west.
The brainchild of Marie-Juliette Bird, Blackbird and the Storm incorporates the elements of nature field recordings, acoustic and electronic instruments, thematically prophetic lyrics, and the gossamer voiced Lily Wilson. This performance is in collaboration with Golden Gate Chapter of the Audubon Society as part of a national tour. The project was shortlisted for the UK New Music Awards and subsequently headlined the City of London Music Festival.
Blackbird and the Storm has received heavy airplay on BBC 6 and their single "Black Crow" was named UK Indie Single of the Week. The project also recently won an Independent Music Award in the category of 'Social Action' (Climate Change).
Opening the show will be Maya Dorn, who has toured internationally and worked with such luminaries as Jerry Casale of Devo, Sarah Silverman, and Femi Kuti in Lagos, Nigeria. She can be seen and heard as MC Ladyfinger in the electro-pop futurists Sweet Snacks, and was a vocalist/lyricist for the 10-piece Afro-beat collective Aphrodesia.
