Deborah Crooks Record Release, with Melissa Phillips with James DePrato

Join local singer/songwriter Deborah Crooks as she celebrates her new recording Beauty Everywhere. Deborah has released several CD's of critically noted original music, drawing on folk, rock, Americana and the Blues, including 2013's Little Bird (described as "a masterful piece of work"), and performs regularly throughout California with periodic tours of the U.S. Along with her solo work, she co-founded the Americana/Rock band Bay Station.

Beauty Everywhere reflects the place Deborah has arrived at musically, spiritually, and creatively. The songs are both personal - covering the vagaries of relationship, the end of a love affair, how to make a house a home, and political - the familial consequences faced by veterans of war, and how to find beauty in a chaotic world. As such, Beauty Everywhere is both a musical project and a call to action.

Recorded at Tiny Telephone in Oakland and produced and arranged by Art Khu (Jacqui Naylor, Art Khu Quartet), Beauty Everywhere features Khu on piano, organ and electric guitars, as well as Mike Stevens (The Uptones, Sun Kil Moon) on drums, Ben Bernstein (New Monsoon, Hobo Paradise) on bass and Kwame Copeland (Straw Coyotes, Bay Station) on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, all of whom will be playing with her at this performance.

Melissa Phillips with James DePrato
Midwest born and SF Bay Area based, Melissa Phillips has spent the last 7 years performing her original acoustic music throughout California. Her songs have been featured on San Francisco's KFOG and various stations throughout the U.S. Joined by longtime musical partner and collaborator James DePrato, Melissa delivers sincere acoustic music through thoughtful and engaging performances.

"Melissa is a true diamond in the rough Bay Area music scene. Call it folk-rock, call it Americana, call it what you will – this is acoustic-based singer-songwriter material that blows right past trends and fashions and is gonna be around for a long, long time."
