Whether it’s a polyrhythmic groove on juju magic, a playful musing on the rhythm of the heartbeat, a march about the mating season of tarantulas, a swing on spring fever, or rockin’ and rollin’ with a ride on the happiness train, Terry Garthwaite, Becky Reardon & Elise Witt cook from the minute they hit the stage.
Imagine Laurie Anderson, Janis Joplin, and Edith Piaf taking a turn from Starhawk and then from Dr. Seuss, and you’ll have some idea of the mad and moving musical adventures created with the rhythms of the natural world and experiments with language and sound. Bringing three uniquely different voices to the blend, Terry, Becky & Elise’s harmonies spread a web of joy and the delight of singing together. The threesome’s concerts are also famous for getting the audience singing, and even self-professed “non-singers” find themselves part of an impromptu glorious chorus!
Becky Reardon is a singer, composer and guitarist whose rounds and songs are popular with community choirs, song circles, and singing classes internationally. She travels widely to share her music in concerts and singing workshops, and is currently writing a musical about a women’s song circle.
Elise Witt’s music is a gumbo that spans styles, countries, genres, and times--fine music to the ears. Her concerts of Global, Local & Homemade Songs™ and her Impromptu Glorious Chorus™ workshops create and connect singing communities around the globe. Elise was born in Switzerland, raised in North Carolina, and has made her home in Atlanta since 1977. She speaks five languages fluently, sings in at least a dozen more, and has eleven recordings on the independent EMWorld Records label. Recipient of the William L. Womack Creative Arts Award, Elise currently serves as Director of Music Programs at the Global Village Project, a school for teenage refugee girls in Decatur GA.
Terry Garthwaite inhabits her songs--passionate rhythmic affirmations that pulse in the bones, seeding comfort and joy. With the improvisation of jazz, expression of blues, textures and tones of world music, and the heart of a healer, Terry makes music that opens you to the joy of living. She has been creating infectious music since the late ‘60s in the Joy of Cooking, and has numerous recordings and songbooks of her own works, as well as a book of vocal games and explorations (“Joy of Sound”), gleaned from her years as a workshop leader and singing teacher. She is an internationally known singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and teacher.
