John Wubbenhorst and Facing East Music
Facing East Music is the result of John Wubbenhorst's 40+ years of involvement with the classical music of India while also maintaining his western roots of jazz. The music could be said to be in the direction of John McLaughlin's Shakti, Oregon and local George Brooks. John himself has spent decades studying the bansuri (North Indian bamboo flute) with maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia.
From this varied background, John began composing music that became the basis for Facing East Music. The group features Eric Smith on the Zendrum, Steve McQuarry on keyboards and Jason Everett on bass. Each of these musicians are known for their expanded world music journeys and more can be read about them here. UPDATE: Although he had planned to join the group for this show, vocalist Mahesh Vinayakram has had to cancel his guest appearance, unfortunately. Please contact us if you have any questions or need more information about this. Thank you!
Tickets are $15 advance/$20 door, and doors open one hour before show time. Cash only at the door. (ATMs are nearby). The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music. If you have any questions or need more information, please call us at #510-654-3808.
