The Page Turners are headed by Carolyn Kendrick (Stockton, CA) and Jake Howard (Akron, OH). Winners of the 2016 Freshgrass "Best Duo" award, they met at the Berklee College of Music, and perform mostly original acoustic music.
The Page Turners blend their love of bluegrass, whiskey-fueled old-time, and classic country into one big all-purpose seasoning of delicious Roots Music. They recorded an EP this past September and will tour following the EP's release.
Bruce Molsky had this to say about the band, "The Page Turners harness the best and deepest parts of bluegrass and old-time sounds as their own unique springboard for some wonderful new music. I love what Carolyn and Jake are doing and can’t wait to hear more!”
Bay Area banjoist Bill Evans is an internationally known five-string banjo life force. As a performer, teacher, writer, scholar and composer, he brings a deep knowledge, intense virtuosity and contagious passion to all things banjo, with thousands of music fans and banjo students from all over the world in a career that spans over thirty-five years.
Bill is the author of Banjo For Dummies and Bluegrass Banjo For Dummies, two of the most popular banjo books in the world. He has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor and performed on a program with the San Francisco Symphony. Bill’s CD In Good Company features over 26 musicians, including the Infamous Stringdusters, Tim O’Brien, and Joy Kills Sorrow, performing Bill’s innovative compositions that blend jazz, classical, folk and world music influences. This release charted #1 on the Roots Music Report/Cashbox Folk and Bluegrass Charts and the Folk DJ-List chart and was named to many Best Of lists, including Pop Matters, Folk Alley and Prescription Bluegrass. Bill’s new CD, Songs That Are Mostly Older Than Us, was recorded with the 86-year old fiddler Fletcher Bright and acoustic legends Norman & Nancy Blake.
“Bill Evans does for the five-string banjo what Van Gogh did for colour…treats it in a different way and then shares it with you. And his recent release In Good Company is a virtuoso master class in exploring bluegrass from the tradition to the far edges of alternative.” - Tom Franks, FolkWords
