Six months after their debut, Molly with Charles are back with a four song EP entitled the Paris Tape, recorded entirely during a March week in the city. The music revisits familiar conceptual territory for the duo; in essence, the endlessly beguiling ambiguity of romantic relationships, past and present.
Sonically, the duo has expanded their territory: the velvety soul whispers of q+m remain, but — to their credit — the band’s sense of scale and dynamics has increased. The project introduces itself with a restrained Satie-inspired gymnopedie, and climaxes with an epic rock/soul aria that recalls some of the grandeur of the Beatles’ Abbey Road. Tying each song together are musique concrete recordings of Paris, presumably a nod to another French great, Pierre Schaeffer. - Miles Rednik, 1922 ARTS/CULTURE
Simon Lunche is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Berkeley, California. For nine years he was the creative force behind The Blondies, which he formed at age 9. He is Gibson Guitar’s youngest endorsed artist in its 114-year history, has self-produced 3 albums, and The Blondies were named one of “eight essential artists to watch” by LIVE105/CBS FM Radio San Francisco. All of this by the time he was 18 years old.
“His singing and songwriting induces the sort of emotion that leaves you speechless.” - Samantha Stevens, PennsEyeView
Simon’s music has been compared to The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, The Kooks, and other well known artists. You’ll hear hints of Jeff Buckley in his velvety voice, and the melodic sensibility of The Beatles in his songs. Simon brings an articulate, sophisticated voice to experiences of his generation. His influences are broad, ranging from John Mayer to Bob Dylan to John Williams. “I use my music as an emotional outlet, and try to make something that is real to me; something human." It is fresh, original music, which recalls sounds you know and love.
Simon is a passionate and driven artist. His first solo album is the culmination of countless hours writing lyrics and refining his sound. Expect the release in late 2017. Simon’s live band includes The Blondies drummer Elias Williams, and other talented musicians he will be introducing and is excited to bring on stage.
