Berkeley native Rachel Garlin is a well-traveled singer-songwriter whose songs explore the human experience with poignant, playful, and artfully painted lyrics. For this performance, Garlin will be joined onstage by her producer Julie Wolf to share songs from the album they are currently recording at Fantasy Studios.
Garlin writes in the contemporary folk tradition. Her character-filled songs tell stories inspired by street art and poetry billboards, letters and words exchanged between friends and loved ones, and observations about regular people doing the stuff of life. Garlin’s live concerts combine a natural stage presence with a seamless interplay of storytelling and music as she guides listeners on a winding road of language, images, and the creative process. Media fans include Curve Magazine (“storytelling at its best”) and the SF Chronicle (“Garlin manages to touch songwriting bases as far back as Woody Guthrie”).
Garlin will be joined by Julie Wolf on piano and James DePrato on dobro and mandolin. Garlin lives in San Francisco with her wife and three kids.
