Adrian West Band, Rachel Efron Ensemble

Two uniquely engaging singer-songwriters team up for the first time at The Back Room for this wonderful evening of music.

When asked what kind of music The Adrian West Trio plays, Adrian sometimes answers "Yes." Or if he's feeling cocky, he'll answer "Good."

The long answer is that the Trio offers up a quirky-but-infectious mix of original songs and instrumentals that explore the space between acoustic rock and World music. They have drawn such diverse comparisons as Paul Simon and Nelly McKay, artists not often mentioned in the same breath. Adrian keeps it lively, moving between guitar & violin and making cool but tasteful use of live looping. He's not afraid to tackle tricky topics in his songwriting; "Safe Streets" is about police violence, "Close Your Eyes" is about the beauty bias in the mass media, and "Random Serenade" is about the meaninglessness of life. Featuring vocal harmonies, guitar, electric violin, bass, drums, and live "looping,” with Scott Keller on drums & vocals and Kevin Goldberg on bass. Find samples and more at www.adrianwest.com.

Singer/Songwriter/Pianist Rachel Efron writes timeless melodies and captivating lyrics from her unique post amidst the genres of classical, jazz, and pop. Her latest release, Angel No More, was produced by Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Sarah MacLachlan) and played on over 45 radio stations nationwide and beyond. Efron is the songwriting teacher at California Jazz Conservatory, has headlined such local venues as Yoshi’s and Freight & Salvage, and has toured extensively on both coasts. She is currently hard at work on a new album to be released in 2018. Her set will feature Aaron Germain on upright bass and Jeremy Steinkoler on drums.

"Balancing fragility and strength, introspection and unblinking observation, Oakland singer, songwriter, and pianist Rachel Efron sets her lambent, poetically charged lyrics to soft, caressing melodies.” — SF Chronicle
