Bloom, Beauzasso

Bloom is the new solo project from Tesla M., local Berkeley scientist, radio DJ on KALX 90.7 FM, and long-time professional musician. Reminiscent of Sleater-Kinney, Neutral Milk Hotel, and the All Girl Summer Fun Band, Bloom draws on memories of rainy days in the Pacific Northwest to create a loner grunge-pop wall of sound. Balancing simple hooks and jazz-blues vocal riffs with lo-fi distorted guitar, Bloom makes every day a rainy day.

Tesla got her start with professional a cappella group The Wildcats at Princeton University and has since played in bands across the Northeast and in the Bay Area. Five years after her San Francisco band, neo-soul piano pop group The Sunset Warriors, scattered members across the country, Tesla is back with her new solo project Bloom. Bloom's performance at The Back Room will debut several new tracks off the upcoming album, Mimulus. Recent performances include events for the University of California, Berkeley, and SPACES in Palo Alto.

Playing with Bloom at The Back Room is Beauzasso.

Beauzasso is a brand new musical project from Berkeley newcomers and fellow biologists Kwasi Wrensford and Sarah Guth. Sarah, a washed-up athlete and former pianist for a small Boston apartment, is producing music from outside her shower for the first time in her life. Kwasi, former lead guitarist for Connecticut-based rock band Flight of Silence and small mammal enthusiast, is returning to his musical roots, drawing from experiences playing jazz, rock, gospel, and R&B to confuse and stupefy a brand new audience of music lovers. Together, they've joined forces to bring their own musical voice to their new town, while also performing their own spin on songs by their favorite artists. While drawing from a stripped down indie pop aesthetic and a neo-soul affinity for harmony and rhythm, their eclectic and gripping sound can only truly be described as...Beauzasso.

Tickets are $15 general admission, and $10 for Students with ID. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby).

The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-654-3808. Thank you for your support!
