Clara & the Broken Barrel Stringband

Clara & the Broken Barrel Stringband.jpeg

Clara & the Broken Barrel Stringband is led by Clara Delfina, who grew up in Northern California and now calls Austin home. She specializes in American old-time and country music. The Stringband includes Haakon Oyen (guitar/vocals), Landon George (bass) and, filling in for regular band member/banjo-player Jake Blount on this tour will be Clarke Williams (banjo).

As a skilled multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Clara’s energy and creativity provides a unique dynamic, giving her the flexibility to dig into archaic tunes as well as experiment with more contemporary country fiddle. The band just released an album of traditional ballads and fiddle tunes, called Mayday,

All of the band members have made incredible strides in old-time music: Haakon plays with international touring band the Slack Bow Nerds and local musicians in Asheville, N.C., Landon and Clarke have also toured internationally with Jenny & the Hog Drovers, a band with Phil Jamison, also based out of Asheville, N.C.

This band brings weird, upbeat, and raging fiddle tunes contrasted with old ballads and country songs about life’s troubles and trials. Their sound is rich with historical depth and feeling, informed by a love of musical communities of the past, but this crew won’t stop until your toe is tapping or you’re falling of your chair laughing, and will carry you along on a journey, bringing this old sound into the future.
