Music in Dimensions 3, 3.5 and 4
Indulge your curiosity about the Music-Math mystique as pianist-composer-mathematician Rob Schneiderman performs in solo and duo settings, along with musical mathematicians from the international conference Topology in Dimensions 3, 3.5 and 4.
Featured compositions will include works of Bud Powell, Duke Ellington, Lennon and McCartney, Ernesto Lecuona, Chico Buarque, and J.S. Bach, as well as music from Rob’s recent Tone Twister recording.
Rob Schneiderman has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Eddie Harris, James Moody, Charles McPherson, JJ Johnson, Jimmy Heath, Clifford Jordan, Art Farmer and Harold Land. After 10 recordings as a leader for the Reservoir Music label, Rob’s recent Tone Twister release for Hollistic MusicWorks features Brian Lynch and Ralph Moore on trumpet and saxophone with Gerald Cannon and Pete Van Nostrand on bass and drums.
In 2001 Rob received a PhD in mathematics from UC Berkeley under the guidance of topology guru Robion Kirby. Rob is currently on the faculty of Lehman College CUNY, and his research is focussed on studying surfaces in 4-dimensional spaces and links of circles in 3-dimensional spaces.
