The Acoustic Guitar Project

The Acoustic Guitar Project is a worldwide songwriting project taking place simultaneously in 50 cities on six continents. Each year, five artists are challenged to take one guitar and write and record a song on that guitar in one week. This concert features those artists and the songs they wrote for the project. The results are amazing!

For this performance, the five artists are a diverse group of the Bay Area’s best singer-songwriters and storytellers: Tom Rhodes, Alexis Harte, Meredith Edgar, Brett Hunter and Lia Rose, who come together on one night only to pass around the guitar and sing their original songs for you.

Oakland based songwriter Tom Rhodes has spent more than a decade honing an honest, heartfelt brand of Americana. Tom has played shows across the US and Europe and was honored by the Songwriter Hall of Fame in 2015. He wrote the song "On The Road" for The Acoustic Guitar Project.

Berkeley's own Lia Rose writes poetic and intensely honest songs driven by a fierce and infectious optimism. Her voice was called "captivating and beautiful" by Tape Op Magazine. Lia has relaunched her album Built for the Sea on Tom Morello's label, Firebrand Records.

Berkeley-raised Alexis Harte has been featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered" and KFOG's "Acoustic Sunrise." Unafraid to explore his own directions as a songwriter, Alexis has released seven albums of his own music and recently provided music for the Oscar-nominated short film Pearl.

Steeped in soul and anchored in a truly authentic form of songwriting that is often lost in today's music, Brett Hunter has a gift for writing songs that bring people together and resonate deeply with audiences. Fresh from a run on a national singing competition and the release of his album, Take Off, Brett wrote "Hold Back" for the project.

Meredith Edgar writes songs about bittersweet love, drowning, mistakes, the ocean, and the dark underbelly of us all. She often dreams about tsunamis, flying and falling, and uncomfortable social situations.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door and $10 for students with ID. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby).

The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-654-3808. Thank you for your support!
