Poly Varghese

Poly Varghese.jpg

Poly Varghese is a leading Hindustani classical guitarist and Mohana Veena player from India.

This disciple of the renowned Mohan Veena exponent and Grammy award-winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhat, takes you to the magical universe of silence and sound in his own innovative and inimitable style. The 20-string Mohan Veena, a combination of lap slide guitar and Sitar, is a highly expressive, melodious instrument and is played by very few people.

A powerhouse performer, his exhilarating concerts have mesmerized audiences in over 43 countries.

Awards: In August 2013, Poly Varghese was invited by the India International Center New Delhi (IIC Delhi) for the prestigious Monsoon Music festival, where he was awarded the Presidential Award. In April 2018, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by the state of Goa.

Inventor: While perfecting and pursuing the depths of music with his guitar, Poly developed his own inimitable style of improvisation. Poly’s unique experiences and experiments led him to develop the 40-stringed, three-neck guitar which he named "Poly String Guitar." This helped deeper expressions in melodies, moods and ragas.

Folk Music: Having traveled and lived with Folk Baul singers of West Bengal, India, he loves to render high-pitched Baul songs, Kabir and soulful Rabindra Nath Tagore Poetry. Actor: With acclaimed talent in acting, Poly has been involved in experimental theatre for several years. He has acted in over a dozen movies in different languages.

Music Director: Poly has directed music for films and theatre alike. In 2005, he won the Jeevan Atlas Award for Best Music Director of the Year in India for the film "Kootilekku" (Towards Home). His first American movie “Maiya” is set to release in September 2018.
