Join us in celebrating the release of Lisa B’s seventh record, Reverberant: Poems & Music, which joins the two strands of Lisa B’s work, vocal jazz and poetry, in riveting ways.
Also featuring tunes from Lisa's 2018 record I Get A Kick: Cole Porter Reimagined and other favorites such as "Joe Williams Died Walking/Every Day I Have the Blues."
Check out the audio trailer for the new album Reverberant: Poems & Music here.
Reverberant speaks to both jazz and poetry audiences. In a departure from Lisa B's previous albums – which feature her jazz vocals and poetic rap in original songs and standards – the new material is grounded in ten of Lisa B’s free-verse poems.
The poems are set in dynamic musical compositions created with stellar Bay Area-based musicians in duo and trio settings, recorded by Grammy-nominated James Gardiner, who boasts 42 gold and platinum records as an engineer, at Pajama Studios in Oakland.
A single from the new album, “I Am an Orchestra: A Tribute to Cecil Taylor,” was released in March 2019, attracting press and song premieres from major jazz sites Jazz Times, Jazziz, All About Jazz, and others, along with thousands of streams.
The 11 pieces in Reverberant are linked by the theme of reverberation, literal and metaphorical, in two overlapping categories, jazz portraits and spiritual self-realization. Mainly spoken, they occasionally showcase Lisa’s singing.
