East Coast vibraphonist Tony Miceli and West Coast bassist Jeff Denson have been talking about getting together for a couple years. After a debut performance in Philadelphia last fall, Jeff and Tony decided to try it again on the West Coast! The two will spend the weekend doing a Vibraphone & Bass Jazz Boot Camp at the California Jazz Conservatory that will end with a performance at The Back Room.
Internationally renowned vibraphonist Tony Miceli has been performing steadily on the jazz scene since 1980. In All About Jazz, Vic Schermer describes him as ... “a vibraphonist of astonishing virtuosity, musical resilience, and inventiveness. His vibes playing is nothing short of phenomenal.”
Jeff Denson has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with his own groups and has worked with some of jazz’s finest artists, such as Brian Blade, Jane Ira Bloom, Dave Douglas, Charles McPherson, Cuong Vu, Ralph Alessi, Walter Smith III, Vadim Neselovskyi, Florian Weber, Dan Weiss and Paul Hanson, and has had an ongoing relationship with the legendary Lee Konitz since 2007. Lee Hildebrand of the SF Chronicle describes him as “master of the Jazz bass."
