Classical Revolution w/ special guest CelloJoe

Join us for a special concert event presented by Classical Revolution, your friendly neighborhood chamber music collective.

The opening set will be performed by CelloJoe, the wildest beatboxing cellist in the West!

Joey Chang, AKA CelloJoe, is an anomaly in the world of cellists. By combining cello with beatboxing, he has created a unique genre: Classical Hip Hop.

CelloJoe records live on stage with a loop pedal and produces intricate tapestries of harmony, melody and rhythm. His beatboxing (vocal percussion) and funky cello grooves form a rich soundscape for intelligent lyrics and his music spreads love, joy, laughter and conscious vibrations.

By beatboxing, throat-singing, singing, plucking and bowing the cello, CelloJoe can mimic many styles of music from dubstep to folk to rock to classical to hip hop.

CelloJoe is the world's first long distance musical bike touring cellist. He has ridden his bike over 10,000 miles in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia.

Classical Revolution was founded in the fall of 2006 with the goal of making classical chamber more relevant in our neighborhoods and communities.

After a successful first year of weekly shows at Revolution Cafe in San Francisco’s Mission District, the organization began to receive invitations to preform at other local venues, including Amnesia and the Red Poppy Art House – soon to be followed by the Legion of Honor and places like Yoshi’s SF and Great American Music Hall.

In its 10th anniversary year, Classical Revolution presented a cycle of Beethoven’s nine Symphonies, performed at venues around San Francisco including the de Young Museum, Fort Mason’s Cowell Theater, and a performance of the 9th Symphony at Grace Cathedral in front of a 1000 person audience.

Classical Revolution returns to The Back Room in Berkeley after presenting a sold out show featuring the Atom Jazz String Quartet, on tour from Poland, earlier in 2019.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby).

The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-654-3808. Thank you for your support!
